Blackwood was the name given by Lincoln to its dressed up version of Ford's sought-after F-150 pick up truck. It was big and only came in black, hence its name, the Blackwood.

Kinja'd!!!

The first ever Blackwood was presented at NAIAS 1999. Very few panties remained dry, so Ford decided to go ahead and penetrate the Premium pick up truck market, which was then dominated by the mighty Cadillac Escalade EXT.

Kinja'd!!!

The Blackwood was offically launched in 2001 as a 2002 model. 50 examples were sold in the 2001 Neiman-Marcus spring catalog for $60,000. That was quite expensive, but unbeknownst to the lucky folks who bought them was the fact they had just bought a great American classic.

In fact, the big Blackwood was pulled out of the market after the 2002 automotive season.

Only 3,356 Blackwoods were made, making it one of the most exclusive premium pick pup ever.

Kinja'd!!!

The most distinctive part of the Blackwood was the box. It was a big black box with with some fancy trim lines and a proper cover to ensure that everything inside would stay warm, tight an not wet.

Inside, the Blackwood was pretty much what you expect from a 2002 Lucury premium pickup in the sense that it was a a pickup interior that felt premium.

Kinja'd!!!

The Lincoln Blackwood was like a one night stand with an aunt : You want to forget. This is exactly what Lincoln did, in fact, they've been so successful forgetting about the Blackwood debacle that they attempted the same thing again in 2005 with the Mark LT.

Kinja'd!!!

Once again, it did poorly and was terminated after the 2008 season.

The Mexican Paradox:

In 2003 and between 2010 and 2014, the Blackwood/Mark LT was secretly sold in the land of the burrito.

Why, we may never know.

Having a lining in your truck bed and some leather trim does not make it coachbuilt.

The box was custom-made by a 3rd party and shipped at the plant.

Well, but the lined bed does bear some resemblance to a coffin, so maybe there was some casket-maker/couch-builder confusion.

Drug money to burn and a complete lack of taste urging you to do it..

I saw my first one at my freshman dorm in '04. I hadn't been following the auto press of the previous two-three years, so it was worth a raised eyebrow.

I'd never noticed how hideous the bed on the Blackwood was. Well, the truck itself is pretty hideous honesty thanks to FoMoCo's BLOB ALL THE THINGS design style of the late 90s - early 00s.

0/10 would much rather EXT.

There was a dude in my area with one. The pinstripes are more hideous in person.

I've seen a Blackwood in person. It was at a Farm and Fleet in Baraboo, Wisconsin. The owner was loading 20 bags of animal feed into the back.

In quite possibly the worst way possible. Kinda like an early quad headlight blob Taurus.

It might be better would the lines running the the bedside.

No, that was just a normal F150. The Blackwood has shit in the way of the bed to prevent you using it as such.

It was called the Blackwood because the concept car had a bed (excuse me, "trunk") made of African wenge wood which looks black when stained, and the production model uses wenge wood-print on plastic.

No, it was a Blackwood. Unless someone went through the trouble of putting a Blackwood front clip, bed, and wheels on an F-150. It had the side-hinge tailgate and tonneau and the carpeted bed.

I know someone who still has one. He loves it. I think it is kinda gaudy.

Weird. Alternatively, why go through the trouble of finding a Lincoln Blackwood if you're planning on doing truck things with it and can get a normal F150 for less (presumably) and 4WD?

It was also the only truck to have the 5.4L DOHC modular "truck" engine in the GT, and only for one year.
